Minneapolis’s own Afro-Fusion artist, Obi Original, describes his latest single “No Talking” as an ode to Black love.
The music video directed by Effy Kawira is a celebration of black love where the narrative follows Obi as he reminiscences the moments and experiences between him and his lover played by Evalyne Maghanga.
“Black love is something that deserves to be celebrated,” he states. He describes Black love as a love that is magical and groundbreaking.
The “Tsunami” singer/songwriter takes listeners and viewers on a journey through a relationship between a young Black couple.
The title ‘No Talking’ encaptures how sensuality is a vital part of relationships. “Communication is the backbone of a relationship,” Obi says.
“I wanted to show that sometimes in relationships, we don’t need to do much talking. Oftentimes, it’s about being on the same ‘wavelength’ with the one you love; and that can be seen through touching, holding and eye contact.”
Obi also stresses the importance of Black women and how their magical touch is one that is often not celebrated to its full extent.
“I wanted to create a song that not only celebrates Black love but a song that celebrates Black women.” He also talks about Black women in his life and how they have pushed him to become a better person. “Black women are worthy of love where they can be their authentic selves,” Mr Original states.
The melodic rhythm of the song allows listeners to not only feel the passion that seeps through the lyrics, but it also allows them to sway their hips and feel the beat throughout their bodies. Enjoy “No Talking” now on all major streaming platforms.
